Mark P. Murphy

Mark P MurphyMark currently serves as a trusted advisor to over 80 CEOs and C-Suite executives. He works with individual executives to help them integrate their lives and lead their companies from an aligned pull instead of a frustrating push. Mark also works with senior leadership teams and executive peer groups to increase their individual and collective performance.

Mark spent 28 years in the C-suite and boardroom, holding the positions of CFO, COO and CEO at various companies, while also serving as a Board Member of the companies he led.

Mark is committed to increasing shareholder value through the building of sustainably performing teams. From talent management to intentional culture, Mark helps executives work on the underlying assets that will produce value for years into the future. His deep understanding of a firm’s financial drivers, as well as his mastery of the human and leadership dimensions, provides his clients with the ability to understand what is working and not working underneath the surface.

Mark’s early business career included roles in software sales, an Auditor and Consultant with Arthur Young & Company (California CPA from 1983 to 2001), the CFO/COO of a networking software developer, the turnaround CEO of a troubled transportation company, and the COO of a capital equipment manufacturer.

From 1995 to 2006, Mark served for four years as Tycom Corporation’s EVP/CFO and eight years as its COO. Tycom’s revenues tripled and its stock value increased 9x between 1995 and 2000, when it was sold to Kyocera, a $12B Japanese conglomerate. Mark left Kyocera Tycom in August 2006 to become the CEO of Pro-Dex, Inc., a publicly traded medical device firm that develops and manufactures powered surgical handpieces. This six-year assignment resulted in a substantial strengthening of the Company’s balance sheet and cash position.

Mark holds a BA in Business Administration (concentrations in Accounting and Management Information Systems) and an MBA in Finance from the California State University at Fullerton. He has been married to his wife, Carla for 45 years. They have four children and nine grandchildren.

Mark is also a Deacon in the Catholic Diocese of Orange, and served as Chairman of the Board of Higher Ground, an organization that serves Orange County youth who are at-risk of gang-induction.

Mark’s clients have described him as intentional, insightful, and trustworthy. They describe their work with him as transformational, creating a sustainable impact on their leadership effectiveness.

Comments from Mark’s clients about Group Facilitation:

Mark has a unique ability to create a safe environment for people to bring their perspectives into an open forum. He enables us to identify the root causes of the challenges we face, cut through the noise, focus on the real issues; and develop a meaningful plan to address them. (CEO)

Articulate, highly focused and results-driven, Mark has made a significant difference in a short period of time. I have never met anyone with such a command of the nuts and bolts a business who also is so skilled in running meetings and having no-nonsense, cut-to-the-chase (fierce) conversations. Our margins have increased and I am seeing an exciting new level of collaboration and drive. I couldn’t be happier. (CEO)

Mark is an extremely insightful person and a deliberate thinker. We hired him to facilitate our off-site management team meeting with the goal of resolving past upsets and creating a shared vision for the future. Mark’s laser focus, discipline and organization led to an unprecedented willingness on the part of the key players to be vulnerable and to listen newly to the perspective of others in ways that they had not been able to in the past. The result has been nothing short of amazing. (CEO)
Mark possesses a rare combination of compassion, clarity and deep commitment to results that make him one of the most insightful and effective leaders I have worked with. He has a unique ability to quickly identify key challenges and gaps holding an organization back and to engage the leadership in driving the necessary change. Mark’s ability to lead breakthrough conversations and develop clear measurable goals within our entire leadership team has generated a level of alignment towards a shared vision that has been quite impressive in a very short period of time. (President)
